Welcome to our Junior Achievement Swaziland (JAS) website! JAS, a member of JA Worldwide is a not for profit organisation; duly registered under Swaziland government laws and established in 2007. JA’s mandate is to equip young people with financial literacy, work readiness and entrepreneurship skills.
As Lupita Nyong’o the famous renowned actress recently stated “It doesn’t matter where you’re from, your dreams are valid”. At JA, we give young people a unique opportunity to explore the world of entrepreneurship, allowing them to appreciate the rewards and dynamics of a free economy while at the same time letting them learn the value of money while exposing them to the work place. Given the startling statistics of youth unemployment in Africa, there is no better time for the youth to take charge of their own economic destiny; to dream and act big. By venturing into the world of entrepreneurship, our young people have an opportunity to create enterprises and jobs not only for themselves but for others within their communities; they have a chance to play an active role in changing Africa’s narrative - for a long time, the world has presented Africa as the dark continent of diseases, poverty and all that. But has that narrative not changed?
Africa is the land of opportunities, and the burgeoning youthful population presents an opportunity to explore the business opportunities that exist not only within the continent but globally. In Swaziland in particular, we work closely with the government of Swaziland and other development partners in an endeavour to promote and encourage young people to start their own businesses. This is one of the reasons why we have developed entrepreneurship development program targeting the Out of School un-employed and underemployed young people in addition to the existing core In-School programs.
The demand for these programs has increased over the years. While we strive to meet the ever increasing demand, we welcome you to join us on the journey of building Africa and the world that we want – one where all human beings are equal and have access to equal opportunities, irrespective of where they are born or where they come from.
I am excited to be part of this transformational journey and welcome you to join us as one of our program sponsors, volunteer or participant.
