Company of the Year Appeal
Junior Achievement (JA) is the largest global, nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering young people to own their economic success by enhancing the relevance of education. JA programs focus on the core content areas of financial literacy, work readiness and entrepreneurship and provide experiential learning opportunities for young people to prepare for their professional lives in the 21st century.
The Company of the Year (COY) competition is the culmination of JA’s highly acclaimed Company Program and provides an exciting and competitive element to the program that enhances the students’ experience and creates significant practical exposure to the competitive world of international business. The JA Company Program teaches students how to start and run their own businesses, developing and marketing a product or service with the help and guidance of a local business volunteer/mentor. Through qualification rounds at the national level, finalists ultimately are selected to showcase their business acumen in a more competitive environment at the regional level. There, the JA Company of the Year Competition creates a signature showcase for JA, its sponsors and, most importantly, the students who have benefitted from the impact of the JA Company Program. This annual event allows young people to demonstrate their business acumen and spirit of entrepreneurship in a competitive environment which engages business, education and policy leaders as well as the media.
Countries where JA is active in Africa will be represented by students who have competed at the national level in their respective countries. These include Botswana, Burkina Faso, Gabon, Ghana, Kenya, Mauritius, Nigeria, Uganda, Tanzania, Senegal, South Africa, Eswatini, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
The COY takes place annually in all five regions of the world where JA works globally. Your Support will help fund event costs, including venue, transportation for student delegations traveling from different countries and their chaperones.
